Studio Xi LLC ("we," "us," or "our") operates the Hanzi Reader mobile application and website
(the
"Service"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information You Provide
- Account Information: When you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and
profile picture from Google.
- Learning Data: Characters you've scanned and learned, profiles you create, and your learning
progress.
1.2 Information Collected Automatically
- Camera & Photo Library: We access your device camera and photo library only when
you choose to scan Chinese text from books or images. Images are processed to extract Chinese characters and are
not stored on our servers after processing.
- Usage Analytics: We use Firebase Analytics to collect anonymized usage data (e.g., screens
visited, features used) to improve the app. This data is not tied to your personal identity.
- Device Information: Basic device information (device type, OS version) for app compatibility
and crash reporting.
1.3 Information We Do NOT Collect
- We do not collect location data.
- We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third-party advertisers.
- We do not use your images or photos for any purpose other than character recognition.

- Your learning data is stored in Google Cloud Firestore, protected by Firebase security rules
that restrict access to authenticated users.
- Data is also stored locally on your device for offline access.
- We use industry-standard encryption (HTTPS/TLS) for all data transmission.
- Scanned images are processed using Google Gemini AI and are not permanently stored by us or
Google after processing.
5. Children's Privacy
Hanzi Reader is designed as an educational tool suitable for children learning Chinese characters. We comply with
the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA):
- We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without parental consent.
- Children should use the app under parental supervision.

6. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access your data stored in our services.
- Delete your account and all associated data by contacting us.
- Export your learning progress data.
- Opt out of analytics by disabling analytics in your device settings.
7. Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your
personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.
